Jonjo Shelvey scored one of the great goals of the 2013-14 Premier League season during Saturday’s game between Swansea City and Aston Villa.
In the 26th minute, Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar cleared the ball straight to Shelvey, who was standing near the edge of the center circle.
Without allowing the ball to hit the ground, Shelvey flicked it up to himself and shot a swerving volley into the top corner of the Aston Villa goal, as goalkeeper Brad Guzan backpedaled in vain.
The goal was Shelvey’s sixth of the Premier League season, and some say it’s better than the long-range goal Wayne Rooney scored on March 22 against West Ham.
Both Rooney and Shelvey scored from around 50 yards away from their opponent’s goal.
