The Boston Red Sox finally gave Jon Lester some run support Friday night as they topped the New York Yankees 4-2.
Lester worked quickly and effectively in his 6 2/3 innings of work, giving up two runs on six hits while striking out six. The offense didn’t come early for the Red Sox, though, as they entered the top of the sixth with only one hit on the night. But Jonny Gomes changed that with one swing of the bat.
Gomes launched a solo shot in the top of the frame to tie the score at 1 before Grady Sizemore belted a three-run homer later in the inning to extend Boston’s lead.
