SuarezLiverpool fans are dreaming about celebrating their first league championship since 1990.

The Reds’ nine-game winning streak has them perched atop the Premier League standings with just five games remaining in the 2013-14 season. However, Liverpool still must pass the stiffest of tests before any festivities can begin.

The first feat comes Sunday when Liverpool hosts third-placed Manchester City at Anfield, as Brendan Rodgers’ surging Reds look to make it a “perfect 10” when Manuel Pellegrini brings Manchester City to town.

Rodgers says the heat of a title chase won’t cause his “fearless” Reds to buckle, adding that the pressure is on Manchester City. After all, Pellegrini’s group has been among the favorites to lift the Premier League trophy since the season kicked off in August.

On Wednesday, Mamadou Sakho called the contest “the biggest match Liverpool have played in 24 years.” The French defender is probably correct in his assessment.

NESN.com soccer editor Marcus Kwesi O’Mard and Manchester Evening News writer Rob Dawson break down the storylines and team news ahead of Sunday’s game. Time will tell if the game is as enthralling as the lead-up to it, but the outcome certainly will have a decisive impact in the race for the 2013-14 Premier League title.
