The Los Angeles Lakers signed general manager Mike Kupchack to a multiyear contract extension Tuesday. The specific terms of the deal haven’t been made public.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne first reported the signing, which the team later confirmed.

Kupchak has struggled to come up with the right formula for the Lakers to win another championship, but the team seems to be giving him a vote of confidence with the extension.

Kupchak certainly has experience in building successful, championship-contending teams. He’s the man responsible for both the Shaquille O’Neal/Kobe Bryant era that produced three NBA championships, as well as the more recent Pau Gasol/Bryant combination that won the team its two most recent titles.

While head coach Mike D’Antoni’s future with the team is uncertain, it appears the Lakers will rely on Kupchak’s past success in hopes of creating a brighter future for the organization.
