The NHL announced its three finalists for the 2013-14 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy on Tuesday, and all three players are on playoff teams.
San Jose Sharks forward Patrick Marleau, Colorado Avalanche forward Ryan O’Reilly and New York Rangers forward Martin St. Louis are this year’s finalists for the prestigious trophy, which is given to the player “adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.”
The 34-year-old Marleau had another productive season for the Sharks, finishing third on the team with 70 points and leading the club with 285 shots on goal.
O’Reilly, meanwhile, was the leading goal-scorer on a young Colorado Avalanche team that won the Western Conference’s Central Division after finishing in the basement of the NHL in 2012-13.
Looking for his fourth Lady Byng trophy in five years is St. Louis, who was traded to the Rangers from the Tampa Bay Lightning in early March and recorded the seventh 30-goal season of his 15-year career.
The winner of the Lady Byng trophy will be announced on June 24 at the 2014 NHL Awards ceremony.
