Michael Phelps is back in the pool once again.
The decorated Olympic swimmer was officially confirmed as an entrant in the Arena Grand Prix in Mesa, Ariz. on April 24-26, marking his first competitive race since the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The 28-year-old seemed to go out in style at the London Games, winning gold in his final race after announcing that he would retire following the Olympics.
In July 2013, however, Phelps hinted that a comeback for the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro wasn’t out of the question.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future,” Phelps told reporters. “I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow.”
Phelps’ plans appear to be coming into focus now, as the 22-time Olympic medalist will compete in a stacked field at the Grand Prix that features Olympians Ryan Lochte and Katie Ledecky.
If Phelps decides to swim at Rio in 2016, he will get the chance to add to his all-time Olympic record of 18 gold medals.
