If you dig the long ball, you might want to tune in to the Pirates-Reds game Tuesday afternoon.
Pittsburgh and Cincinnati put on an absolute slugfest Monday at Great American Ball Park, combining for 10 home runs through just six innings of play despite the rain-soaked conditions.
Nine different players hit homers, and the Pirates had three sets of back-to-back round-trippers, with two pairs coming off the bats of Neil Walker and Gaby Sanchez.
With the exception of Andrew McCutchen’s RBI single in the first inning, every run from both teams came by way of the long ball.
The craziest part about this amazing power display, though, is it isn’t even over yet.
After a 1-hour, 38-minute rain delay at the end of the sixth inning, the game was suspended until Tuesday, when it will resume at 5:30 p.m. in the top of the seventh with the teams locked in a 7-7 tie.
The record for the most home runs in a single game by both teams is 12, set in July 2002 when the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers each clubbed six homers, according to Baseball Almanac.
If yesterday’s bash is any indication, two homers over the final three innings should be a piece of cake for these teams.
