Red Sox To Deploy Fifth Different Leadoff Hitter Of 2014 Against Orioles

Brock HoltBOSTON — The Red Sox will install their fifth leadoff hitter in 20 games.

Brock Holt will lead off for Boston on Patriots’ Day as the Red Sox look to build on Sunday’s dramatic, come-from-behind, walk-off win over the Baltimore Orioles. He’ll join Grady Sizemore (seven games), Daniel Nava (five), Jonny Gomes (four) and Dustin Pedroia (three) in spending at least one game atop Boston’s order this season.

Perhaps an even bigger lineup note is that first baseman Mike Napoli will play despite getting drilled in the knee in the ninth inning of Sunday’s win. Napoli stayed in Sunday’s game, but it took the slugger a minute to catch his bearings and manager John Farrell said after the contest the Red Sox would check on him — and everyone else, for that matter — in the morning.

Jackie Bradley Jr., who was out of Sunday’s lineup, will be back in center field. He’ll be joined in the outfield by Gomes (left field) and Nava (right field). David Ross will handle the catching duties with Clay Buchholz on the mound.

Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy, who left Sunday’s game with a right hamstring strain, will be out of the lineup Monday.
