Detroit Red Wings Prospect Scores Nasty Between-The-Legs Goal (Video)

Take some notes, Tomas Hertl.

Andreas Athanasiou, a Detroit Red Wings prospect currently playing for the OHL’s Barrie Colts, netted an incredible goal that was reminiscent of — but even more impressive than — the one the San Jose Sharks rookie scored earlier this season.

Hertl wowed the hockey world — and angered some of the sport’s purists — back in October when he capped a 9-2 rout of the New York Rangers with a between-the-legs goal.

The 19-year-old’s highlight-reel tally came on an uncontested breakaway, though, and he released his shot from right on top of the crease. Athanasiou’s goal Sunday, on the other hand, came after he muscled past two defenders and somehow was able to thread the puck over the left shoulder of North Bay Battalion netminder Jake Smith from near the right face-off dot.

The goal was the last of the season for the Ontario native, as North Bay went on to eliminate Barrie from the playoffs with a 4-1 win.
