Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff isn’t one to sit back and wait.
The Falcons are contemplating trading up in the 2014 NFL draft to select South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, themmqb.com’s Peter King reported Monday. King puts the Falcons’ chances for a trade up from No. 6 overall to the No. 1 slot at 40 percent.
King wrote that it would take at least two first-round picks — this year’s and next year’s — to move up in a trade with the Houston Texans, who hold the first overall pick.
If the Falcons can’t trade up to No. 1, they could trade up with the St. Louis Rams for the second overall pick. The Texans likely will select Clowney or a quarterback at No. 1 overall.
Dimitroff traded up from No. 27 overall to No. 6 in the 2011 NFL draft to select wide receiver Julio Jones. The Rams have a recent history of trading their first-round picks.
