AJ McCarronThe New England Patriots appear determined to find a quarterback in the 2014 NFL draft.

The Patriots met with former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron on Wednesday, NFL Media’s Gil Brandt reported Thursday. McCarron seems like a natural fit for the Patriots since he played under Bill Belichick disciple Nick Saban with the Crimson Tide.

McCarron, like Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, isn’t known to have the strongest arm, as accuracy and decision-making are his biggest strengths. McCarron threw for 3,063 yards while completing 67.3 percent of his passes in 2013 with 28 touchdowns and seven interceptions. McCarron threw just three interceptions with 30 touchdowns in 2012.

The Patriots also have met with top quarterbacks Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles, Teddy Bridgewater and Zach Mettenberger. Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallett is a free agent after the 2014 season.
