Ruben Tejada’s slow start still hasn’t pushed the New York Mets toward free-agent shortstop Stephen Drew.
There is “no momentum” on the Drew front, sources told Andy Martino of the New York Daily News. Drew’s medicals and link to draft pick compensation reportedly have scared off potential suitors and, according to Martino, there is nothing new brewing between the shortstop and the Mets.
Tejada entered Friday’s action having played 20 games this season, and the results haven’t been impressive. The 24-year-old is hitting .203 with a .309 on-base percentage.
Drew remains a free agent after rejecting a one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer from the Boston Red Sox over the offseason. The 31-year-old reportedly has been seeking a multiyear contract on the open market, but such a deal has been hard to find for the Scott Boras client.
