The New England Revolution’s goal-scoring woes continued Saturday, as they lost 2-0 to D.C. United.
Revolution captain Jose Goncalves scored a first-half own goal, and Chris Rolfe added one late in the second half to give D.C. its first win in 15 games, dating back to last season.
While the Revolution out-possessed and out-shot their Eastern Conference rivals, they lacked the necessary scoring punch to earn a result at R.F.K. Stadium.
Forward Saer Sene missed a pair of scoring chances in the first half before Goncalves’ misplaced clearance put the home team ahead in the 43rd minute.
Revs forward Teal Bunbury could have tied the game early in the second half, but he failed to test D.C. Untied goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra.
Rolfe scored deep into second-half stoppage time to seal the result.
Jay Heaps was ejected late in the game for berating an official. The Revolution head coach will watch his team’s next game from the stands.
The Revs’ 2014 record fell to 1-3-1.
The Revolution look to rebound from the D.C. United defeat next week when they take on the Houston Dyanamo at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday at Gillette Stadium.
