Ryan Roberts Will Make Red Sox Debut At Third Base Tuesday vs. Rangers

The newly acquired third baseman is in Tuesday night’s lineup and will make his Boston Red Sox debut at Fenway Park against the Texas Rangers at 6:10 p.m.

The former Tampa Bay Rays infielder signed with the Red Sox on Monday to help fill the void left at third base by infielder Will Middlebrooks, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained calf. The Sox optioned infielder Brock Holt to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for Roberts.

Roberts, affectionately known as “Tatman,” will bat eighth against Rangers starter Martin Perez.

Jonny Gomes gets the start in left field and will bat leadoff for the second time this season, while Grady Sizemore and Jackie Bradley Jr. get the nod in center field and right field, respectively.
