Thousands of firefighters and mourners lined the streets of Watertown, Mass., last Wednesday to pay their respects to Boston Fire’s Lt. Edward Walsh, who died in the line of duty while fighting a nine-alarm blaze in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood on March 26.
Wednesday was an emotional day for all involved, so it was with heavy hearts the Watertown boys’ lacrosse team took the field that day. The team kept Walsh’s memory alive, though, honoring the hometown hero by writing “LT. EW 33” on a piece of athletic tape and placing it on their helmets for their game against Middlesex League rival Belmont.
