Washington Capitals fans can breathe a big sigh of relief.

After suffering what appeared to be a significant injury to his right leg during the third period of Russia’s 3-0 win over Germany at the 2014 World Hockey Championship, the Caps captain had to be helped off the ice and taken to the hospital. It certainly didn’t look pretty, but after the game, good news regarding his injury came out.

Ovechkin was seen back at his hotel walking around, and Slava Malamud of Sport-Express.ru reported that the team doctor said the injury was “better than we thought.”

Ovechkin eased even more qualms about his status just moments later when he tweeted out a picture of himself to reassure everyone that he was OK.

While this doesn’t mean Ovechkin avoided injury altogether, it is good news for Team Russia and Washington fans that it is not as serious as originally thought.
