The amount of love for the Montreal Canadiens in Boston is tiny. It’s non-existent, essentially, so it only makes sense the Habs flag that waved in Bruins country on Wednesday reflected that.
Before the Eastern Conference semifinal series between the rivals got underway, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Montreal Mayor Dennis Coderre made a friendly wager on the outcome, with the losing city agreeing to fly the opposing team’s flag at its city hall.
Well, it’s been one week since the Bruins were eliminated after falling 3-1 in Game 7 to the Canadiens, so some Montreal pride was waving in downtown Boston. There was oly one problem: You might have to squint really hard to see the flag. While it would be hilarious on Boston’s end if the city bought the smallest flag ever made, SB Nation reports this was the exact flag Coderre sent to Walsh.
Canada’s flag game could use some work, but they have enough problems to deal with as their Canadiens are down 2-0 to the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference finals.
