Brendan Rodgers’ peers recognized his outstanding work as Liverpool manager with their most prestigious honor.
England’s Football League Managers’ Association named Rodgers its “Manager of the Year” on Monday. The managers from 92 clubs in England’s top four divisions cast their ballots, and Rodgers received the majority of the votes.
“There can be no greater tribute to a manager and his work than a tribute awarded by his match day foes and peers,” LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson said, according to Sky Sports. “We applaud Brendan Rodgers as he receives that most valuable award.
“Liverpool’s performances and results this season have provoked memories of some of those momentous years in the past when they had to contend with those two Uniteds — the first from Leeds, the second from Manchester.
“For Liverpool and Brendan, I’m sure we all hope this season marks the beginning of a new voyage and a new era.”
Rodgers led Liverpool to a second-place finish in the 2013-14 Premier League and qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Liverpool racked up 84 Premier League points this season — 23 more than it amassed in 2012-13, which was Rodgers’ first as the Reds’ boss.
Rodgers’ philosophy and methods also helped Liverpool record a historic goal tally, thrill fans and win over a host of new admirers.
Rodgers, 41, is expected to sign a new contract with Liverpool in the coming days. The deal could keep him on the Liverpool sidelines until at least 2018.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace’s Tony Pulis won the Premier League’s Manager of the Year Award by vote of his rivals (and colleagues) in the top flight.
