BOSTON — The Bruins appeared to be headed for defeat in Thursday night’s playoff series opener before defenseman Johnny Boychuk tied the score at 3 with a booming slap shot from the point that beat Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price.

After retrieving the puck below the goal line, Bruins forward Brad Marchand surveyed the TD Garden ice and found Boychuk at the point with plenty of space. The veteran D-man fired the puck on net, and Price didn’t see it with all the bodies in and around his crease.

The goal was scored with just 1:58 left in regulation.
