St. Louis Cardinals fans bathe themselves in the idea of class or being classy, and Redbirds fans have no problem letting you know just how much class they have. Add New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter to the mix, and you’ve got the potential for something completely insufferable.

Jeter’s farewell tour continued Tuesday night when the Yankees made a stop in St. Louis to take on the Cardinals. As has been the case in every other city Jeter and the Yanks have stopped in this season, there was plenty of love for Jeter, who is retiring at the end of the season.

One Cardinals fan decided he was going to congratulate Jeter — one of baseball’s “classiest” players — on his career, while also getting the Cardinals a little bit of love, too.

It doesn’t get much more self-loving than that, although that’s a really well-done sign.

What makes this even worse (or better, depending on how you look at it), is the patch on the fan’s jersey. If you look closely, you’ll see that it’s some sort of Wrigley Field patch. The Cubs, of course, are celebrating Wrigley’s 100th birthday this season. The Cubs are also the Cardinals’ biggest rival. So it may seem weird that a Cardinals fan has a patch on his jersey commemorating his rival’s stadium’s birthday, right? Of course.

As Twitter was quick to point out Tuesday night, there might be a little bit more than meets the eye with that patch.

Classy, indeed.
