Caroline Wozniacki Leans On Liverpool After Rory McIlroy Dumps Her

Caroline WozniackiOne of the reasons why sports are so great is they allow us some sort of escape when things aren’t going well. To say things aren’t going well for Caroline Wozniacki this week would be an understatement.

The world-class tennis player was dumped by golfer Rory McIlroy, who called off their engagement shortly after they sent out wedding invitations. Ouch.

Adding even more insult to injury is that the break-up came just a few days before Wozniacki was scheduled to begin play at the French Open. The major tournament starts Sunday.

However, Wozniacki seems to be taking things in stride, and she’s leaning on her sports allegiances to help her through this tough time. Wozniacki is a devoted Liverpool fan, and she sounds like she’ll take comfort in that, as she referenced LFC in her first public comments after the break-up.

Wozniacki isn’t shy about her soccer rooting interests. The 23-year-old did an interview with LFC.tv in 2010 where she raved about the club.

“I am a huge Liverpool fan,” Wozniacki told the club’s website. “I watch almost every match because I really like football, and when I have time off, I always watch Liverpool matches.”

One of Wozniacki’s prized possessions is her autographed Steven Gerrard jersey, which she once wore while warming up for a match.
