Triple plays in baseball are rare enough. A game-ending triple play in the playoffs? That’s unheard of.

Fans at a high school tournament game in California witnessed one last week, though, as Menlo School-Atherton turned three with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to seal a 2-1 win over Capuchino-San Bruno.

Shortstop Mikey Diekroeger started off the sequence with an incredible grab, diving to spear a line drive up the middle before stepping on second base and firing to first for the final out.

“In all my years at Menlo, we’ve never had a triple play,” coach Craig Schoof told the San Jose Mercury News. “To end a (tournament) game on a triple play is amazing.”
