Drake Britton, David RossBOSTON — The Red Sox have recalled left-hander Drake Britton from Triple-A Pawtucket for the second game of Thursday’s doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.

Britton will serve as the 26th man on the Red Sox’s active roster for Game 2. Under Major League Baseball Rules, teams are permitted to add an extra player for the second game of doubleheaders played within one day of the original postponement.

Britton went 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 21 innings over 18 relief appearances with the Red Sox in 2013. The 24-year-old has posted a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings over 10 relief appearances with Pawtucket this season.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said after Thursday’s first game that the club opted to recall Britton based on how well the lefty has pitched and his recent workload at Triple-A.

The Red Sox dropped Game 1 of Thursday’s doubleheader 2-1.
