The Boston Red Sox found themselves yet again on the losing end of a challenge during the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Dustin Pedroia could have scored the tying run off of a David Ortiz double in Boston’s 2-1 loss to the Rays, but the umpire called him out on a very close play at the plate. When Sox manager John Farrell challenged the call, the umpires ruled that there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn it.
“I just don’t like the whole inconclusive deal on the replay,” Pedroia said. “You should go check it out, and you’re either out or safe. I don’t know what inconclusive means. Maybe that means someone doesn’t want to make a decision.”
