Elin Nordegren perhaps is best known for her marriage to and messy divorce from professional golfer Tiger Woods in 2010. So when the former Swedish model took the stage at Rollins College over the weekend, chances were high that she would make some reference to her famous ex-husband.
She didn’t disappoint.
Nordegren graduated at the top of her class with a 3.96 GPA nine years after enrolling at Rollins, and her smarts earned her the chance to address the class at commencement as the school’s outstanding graduating senior.
The 34-year-old relayed some important messages to the class over the course of her 12-minute speech, but she also took the opportunity to throw some subtle shots at Woods.
“It was right after I had taken Communications and the Media that I was unexpectedly thrust into the media limelight,” Nordegren said, referring to her very public divorce from Woods in 2010. “… I probably should have taken more notes in that class.”
The remark drew cheers and laughter from the crowd.
Nordegren also mentioned how her divorce from Woods was part of some of “the most challenging times” in her life, but that her classes at Rollins provided her “a place of peace in the wild storm of my personal life.”
Nordegren enrolled at Rollins shortly after moving to the U.S., but she had to take several breaks from classes because of the birth of her two sons, Sam and Charlie.
