Montreal Canadiens winger Brandon Prust should have been ejected for a dangerous hit on New York Rangers center Derek Stepan during the first period of Thursday night’s Eastern Conference finals game at Madison Square Garden, but he escaped without a penalty.

Prust delivered a late, high hit that knocked Stepan out of Game 3 for a few minutes. The puck was long gone when Prust made contact. It was a clear case of interference, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Prust receives an NHL suspension for this hit.

Former referee Kerry Fraser shared his take on the hit via Twitter:

Rangers winger Derek Dorsett challenged Prust to a fight later in the period, and the Canadiens veteran accepted.
