LundqvistCrosbyNew York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was fined $5,000 by the NHL for “unsportsmanlike conduct” during Game 6 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the league announced Monday.

The incident occurred at the end of the second period in New York’s 3-1 win over Pittsburgh when Lundqvist dumped water on Sidney Crosby’s face as he skated off the ice during a scrum. Lundqvist’s fine comes just one day after Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton was fined $2,820.52 for squirting Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban with water in Game 5 of their series.

Both players were fined the maximum amount allowed under the collective bargaining agreement, but because fines are based on a player’s daily salary, Lundqvist will cough up about double what Thornton shells out.
