Boston Red Sox right-hander John Lackey was as good as he’s been all season Friday night against the Tampa Bay Rays, taking the tough-luck no decision to earn the Amica Pitcher of the Week honors.
The Red Sox dropped their eighth consecutive game in heart-wrenching fashion despite Lackey putting his team in a great position to finally get back in the win column. The righty pitched seven-plus innings of shutout ball, surrendering just five hits on the day.
But Boston, who has scored just 16 runs during its longest skid since dropping the final eight games of the 2012 season, couldn’t reward Lackey for his stellar performance as the Rays took the 1-0 victory.
