Move over, Johnny Football. It’s Johnny Hockey’s turn.

Team USA opened the 2014 IIHF World Championship against host nation Belarus on Friday, and former Boston College standout Johnny Gaudreau has stolen the show thus far.

Gaudreau, who made his NHL debut with the Calgary Flames just last month, received a pass from Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jeff Petry at the blue line and fired a laser of a shot that flew between a defender’s legs, over the left shoulder of Belarusian netminder Andrei Mezin and into the corner of the net.

People of Alberta, take notice. You should be seeing a lot of this next season.

Gaudreau’s goal gave the U.S. a 3-0 lead late in the third period, and his former BC linemate, Jimmy Hayes, assisted on a Colin McDonald tally less than two minutes later that extended that lead to 4-0.
