Like most pitchers, Boston Red Sox starter Jon Lester’s career has had its ups and downs. But unlike most pitchers, Lester has been able to stay consistently good, thanks to his dominant cutter.
The cutter is a fastball that breaks, or cuts, toward the catcher’s glove side as it reaches the plate. It’s not easy for a pitcher to control how it cuts, and that’s what separates Lester from most pitchers.
Lester has amazing control of his cut fastball, throwing his for more strikeouts (28) than any other pitcher in the league so far this season.
