Mark Sanchez is probably ready to put his infamous “butt fumble” in the past. Apparently the fans of his former team are not.

The former New York Jets quarterback’s fateful play resurfaced yet again this week when the jersey he wore during that game — a 49-19 blowout at the hands of the New England Patriots on November 22, 2012 — was auctioned off by the NFL for a grand total of $820.

The “lucky” winner — Jets fan and California resident Jake Hendrickson — took home the game-worn jersey after bidding opened at $176.

“The second I realized what it was I knew I had to have it,” Hendrickson told Yahoo! Sports. “Almost for macabre reasons; the amount of ridicule I have received from friends regarding that play and me being a diehard Jets fan out in California especially, there’s no way I could let it get in the hands of an anti-fan or something of that manner to be shoved in our face.”

The official description of the jersey, of course, makes no mention of Sanchez’s hilarious gaffe, stating that he “threw for 301 yards and a touchdown while wearing this jersey.”

The 27-year-old has moved on from New York after he was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in March, but it’s safe to say his place in Jets folklore is firmly secure.

Here’s a video of the butt fumble, because why not.
