The Boston Bruins aren’t the only team to be bitten by the flu bug during these Stanley Cup playoffs.
Montreal Canadiens winger Rene Bourque missed practice Monday with the flu as his team prepares to host the Bruins in Game 3 of their second-round series Tuesday night. Daniel Briere skated in Bourque’s usual spot alongside linemates Lars Eller and Brian Gionta.
Bourque, the Canadiens’ goals leader through six playoff games, tallied a goal and an assist in Montreal’s double-overtime win in Game 1 after scoring three goals in a first-round sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Bourque was not nearly as proficient on the offensive end during the regular season, totaling just nine goals and seven assists in 63 games. His status for Game 3 has yet to be announced.
UPDATE (12:47 p.m.): Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien told reporters after practice that he is Bourque will be healthy enough to play Tuesday.
