NEW YORK — The New England Patriots finally selected a wide receiver in the 2014 NFL draft.
The Patriots took Michigan wide receiver Jeremy Gallon with their final pick (No. 244 overall)Â in the seventh round Saturday.
Gallon ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound slot receiver also ran a 7.07-second three-cone and a 4.26-second short shuttle at his pro day in March and showed off impressive explosion with a 39.5-inch vertical and 10-foot-10 broad jump.
Gallon caught 89 passes for 1,373 yards with nine touchdowns as a senior in 2013. He also had return experience with the Wolverines, taking back 47 punts for 333 yards and 32 kickoffs for 658 yards in four years at Michigan.
Gallon isn’t guaranteed to make the Patriots’ roster with a stacked group of wide receivers already on it, but he can push last year’s rookies, Josh Boyce and Kenbrell Thompkins, for a spot.
