Derrick JohnsonMaine’s Derrick Johnson must have had an impressive showing at his New England Patriots rookie minicamp tryout.

The Patriots signed the wide receiver as an undrafted free agent, his agent, Josh Stevens, confirmed Sunday on Twitter.

Johnson, 22, had an impressive showing at his pro day in May. He ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash with a 6.60-second three-cone drill and 4.20-second short shuttle with a 10-foot-2 broad jump and 33-inch vertical leap.

The 5-foot-10, 186-pound receiver caught 60 passes for 608 yards with two touchdowns as a senior in 2013 with the Black Bears.

Johnson joins a crowded wide receiver corps that includes fellow undersized rookie Jeremy Gallon.
