It’s been less than two months since the regular season began, but we’ve already seen a number of great plays from MLB ball girls.

This is not one of them.

During the seventh inning of the Philadelphia Phillies’ interleague matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays, Phillies batter Freddy Galvis laced a line drive foul down the left field line in the direction of the seats.

The ball girl on duty leaped to her feet to run after the ball, but as the video below shows, her catch attempt went horribly wrong.

Not only did the girl fail to catch the screaming line drive, she also was unable to get her body out of the way, meaning that she undoubtedly woke up this morning with a baseball-sized welt on her right leg.

To her credit, the ball girl toughed it out after the clearly painful play and was all smiles as she returned to her post.

The home team could failed to be inspired by their ball girl’s grit, though, as their seventh-inning rally fell short in a 3-0 loss at Citizens Bank Park.
