Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice held a news conference Friday with his wife to discuss a February incident in which he allegedly knocked her out in a casino elevator.

It didn’t go well.

His wife, Janay, apologized for her role in the incident, and Rice made an extremely poor analogy in his first public comments on the matter since his arrest.

The 27-year-old running back also apologized for his actions and revealed that counseling has helped his marriage. The couple was engaged at the time of the incident but married soon afterward.

The comments by Rice and his wife, as well as the Ravens’ handling of the news conference, fired up folks on Twitter.

Rice, who was indicted on a third-degree aggravated assault charge in March, likely will avoid jail time. But he still could face a suspension from the NFL. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that “the Ravens are preparing for Ray Rice to miss at least three games.”
