Redskins Urge Fans To Tweet At Senator In Latest Move To Defend Team Name

It’s been an interesting week on the Twittersphere for NFL teams in the Baltimore-Washington area.

First, it was the Baltimore Ravens who drew the ire of just about everyone with some head-scratching tweets during a Ray Rice news conference, his first public appearance since being accused of beating his wife. On Thursday, the Washington Redskins got in on the act the only way they know how.

The controversy over the Skins’ name rages on, and that was helped along by a tweet sent from the team on Thursday afternoon.

The call to action to go after Senator Harry Reid comes as Reid is one of the politicians leading the charge in D.C. advocating for the Redskins to change their name. Reid was one of 50 U.S. senators who sent a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell last week calling on the league to change the team’s name.

The Redskins wasted no time firing back at the Senate, and they continued that fight on Thursday. The response to the latest tweet from the team has been, well, as you might expect: mostly negative.
