There was a point during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals Monday night when NBC Sports between-the-benches analyst Pierre McGuire commented that the Montreal Canadiens were chirping at the referees a little more than usual. One of the referees eventually heard enough and was done dealing with the Habs’ bench.
Referee Dan O’Halloran was done with Montreal head coach Michel Therrien at some point during the Habs’ 3-1 loss to the New York Rangers. Therrien requested an impromptu meeting with O’Halloran to discuss something, but the veteran referee was having none of it.
O’Halloran checked with Therrien to see if his tantrum was because he wanted a timeout. Therrien apparently said no, and that was enough for O’Halloran, who denied the coach’s request for a chat.
That led to an awesome reaction from Therrien. See the interaction in the GIF below, courtesy of @myregularface.
