The Patriots tried out two running backs, Ronnie Brown and Brian Leonard, and two tight ends, Nate Byham and Ben Hartsock, on Tuesday, Howard Balzer reported Wednesday.
Brown has 1,261 career rushing attempts for 5,328 yards and 38 touchdowns in nine NFL seasons. He spent 2013 with the San Diego Chargers, rushing for 157 yards on 45 attempts with a touchdown.
Brown also has experience catching out of the backfield with 241 career receptions and 1,922 yards.
Leonard has spent seven seasons in the league playing running back and fullback. He played in 2013 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for his former Rutgers head coach, Greg Schiano. Schiano is friends with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, and the two spent time together during the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, leading some to believe that Schiano is working as an advisor for the Patriots.
Leonard has 221 career rushing attempts for 828 yards and 142 receptions for 993 yards.
Byham played in 2012 and 2013 for the Buccaneers. He has 11 career receptions for 83 yards in three NFL seasons.
Hartsock has spent 10 seasons in the NFL, recording 31 catches for 312 yards with a touchdown. He played in 13 games with the Carolina Panthers in 2013 but didn’t record a catch.
