Terrell ThomasThe New England Patriots either areĀ building a roster, or forming a self-help group for football players who have suffered a torn ACL.

The Patriots worked out veteran free-agent cornerback Terrell Thomas on Thursday, Howard Belzer reported. Thomas managed to play 16 games for the New York Giants in 2013 after missing two consecutive seasons with tears in his right ACL.

Thomas mostly played as the Giants’ slot cornerback in 2013,Ā recordingĀ one interception, one sack and seven passes defensed. He was drafted by the Giants in the second round (No. 63 overall) of the 2008 NFL draft.

Rob Gronkowski, Tommy Kelly, Dominique Easley, Will Smith and Darius Fleming already are returning from torn ACLs for the Patriots this season.

If Thomas signs with the Patriots, he would join former Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) High School teammate Patrick Chung on the New England roster.
