Brendan Rodgers is ready to walk with Liverpool FC for the long haul.
Rodgers has agreed to sign a new contract as Liverpool manager, which will keep him at the helm for the next four years, according to the Telegraph, Mail and Mirror.
“Although it is yet to be signed, it is understood that the contract in principle has been agreed which will keep Rodgers on Merseyside until at least 2018,” the Telegraph reports.
Rodgers replaced Kenny Dalglish as Liverpool manager in June 2012. The Reds finished seventh in the Premier League in their first season under Rodgers but rocketed to the top of the standings in 2013-14, adding 20 points to their previous season’s total.
Rodgers’ current contract expires after the 2014-15 season (plus another option year), but Liverpool reportedly will reward him for this excellent season with fresh terms. Rodgers earns £2.5 million per year. The new deal includes a raise that will make him one of the Premier League’s highest-earning managers, according to the Mirror.
Rodgers won Liverpool’s Outstanding Achievement Award on Tuesday in recognition for this season’s accomplishments. The new contract, which the Mirror expects Rodgers to sign before the weekend, would cement his relationship with the club and set the stage for continued progress in the future.
