Donald Sterling, Shelly SterlingIt seems that disgraced Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling sees the writing on the wall as he reportedly has agreed to let his wife, Shelly, negotiate a sale of the team.

The decision would end the weeks-long drama surrounding the NBA’s attempt to force the pair to give up control of the team after Donald Sterling was caught on tape making racially insensitive remarks.

Sterling no longer is the controlling owner of the Clippers, and Shelly reportedly is working with the NBA on terms of the sale, according to TMZ Sports, citing sources close to the organization. Shelly and her lawyer have been meeting in secret with NBA commissioner Adam Silver and the league’s attorneys to “resolve the dispute amicably.”

The NBA recently filed charges against Sterling to terminate his ownership of the team, and the clock was ticking on him to respond. Sterling’s lawyer, Max Blecher, responded to the charges by asking for a three-month delay, but that request was turned down by the NBA, ESPN.com reported, citing sources.

TMZ’s sources said Shelly is willing to sell the team on her terms, and she is prepared to sue the NBA if it forces an involuntary sale.
