Plenty of athletes have assisted high school students with their elaborate promposals throughout the last couple of years, but none of their stories were as heartwarming as the one involving Robert Griffin III.

The Washington Redskins quarterback made a surprise appearance at a Centerville High School playoff lacrosse game in Clifton, Va., on Thursday to pull off a special prom invitation.

Centerville junior Morgan Assel enlisted the help of RG3 to help her ask 17-year-old classmate Juwaan Espinal, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair, to the big dance. Assel and Griffin hid behind a large banner that read “I know I’m not as cool as RGIII, but will you go to the prom with me?”

Then, Espinal’s favorite player popped out from behind the sign. Although he’s non-verbal, the reaction on his face certainly conveyed just how thrilled he was to see Griffin. After saying yes to Assel, Griffin took multiple selfies with his No. 1 fan and signed autographs.

“I’m just really excited and really grateful that RG3 came to help Juwaan,” Assel told WJLA. “It just really means a lot that people are willing to do this for him because he is such a special person and he really deserves it.”

Check out how the surprise unfolded in the video below.
