Things don’t appear to be getting much better for the Boston Red Sox.
A day after dropping their eighth consecutive game, the Red Sox announced on Saturday that they have placed Victorino on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. To replace Victorino, Boston recalled outfielder Daniel Nava from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Victorino came up lame in the ninth inning of Friday’s 1-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays while running out a bunt attempt and stayed on base for two pitches before being taken out of the game.
The 33-year-old’s injury marks his second stint on the disabled list this season, as he missed the first three weeks of the year with another right hamstring injury suffered during spring training.
Victorino is batting .242 with one home run and 10 RBIs in just 21 games played this season. Nava returns for his second appearance in the majors this season after struggling with just 10 hits in 67 at-bats through 17 games in early April.
