Shane VictorinoBOSTON — Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino has missed two straight games with a knee injury. He might not miss many more.

Victorino, who underwent an MRI on his left knee Friday, is unlikely to land on the disabled list, according to Red Sox manager John Farrell.

“There was swelling in the joint. We don’t think this is going to be a DL situation,” Farrell said Friday following the Red Sox’s 1-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park. “He’ll be fitted for a brace to wear. We’ll check him tomorrow and his availability.”

Victorino suffered the injury while running the bases in a game against the Texas Rangers. The issue was bothersome enough to keep the 33-year-old out of the lineup for Thursday’s series finale against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field and Friday’s series opener against the Tigers at Fenway Park, but it’s encouraging for the Red Sox that The Flyin’ Hawaiian might not miss much time beyond the two games he’s already been sidelined.

Victorino has given the Red Sox a spark since returning from a hamstring injury that kept him out of Boston’s first 22 regular-season games. Losing him would be a big blow, evidenced by Friday’s loss, in which the Red Sox produced just three hits while getting blanked by the Tigers.
