When former University of Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was nine years old, he made a promise to his mom that he would buy her a pink Escalade with pink rims when he made it to the NFL.
Now, that dream is just days away from becoming a reality with the 2014 NFL Draft coming up Thursday, and the possible No. 1 pick is making good on his word.
In a short film directed by Spike Lee, Bridgewater’s story of rising from a young peewee player to a quarterback on the brink of breaking out in the NFL — all the while caring for his mom who battled breast cancer — is captured in an emotional seven-minute documentary.
“When I was in third grade, I promised my mom I would get her a pink Cadillac Escalade,” Bridgewater said. “Pink is the color that represents breast cancer awareness, so I just want to get her that big pink Escalade truck and see that big smile on her face.”
