When Boston Red Sox pitcher John Lackey takes the mound against the Texas Rangers on Sunday, he’ll have the chance to continue an impressive run of quality pitching.
Lackey has struck out 20 batters while surrendering only four walks and over his last 22 innings and now has 43 strikeouts on the season compared to just 11 walks.
On Red Sox GameDay Live, former Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield broke down the keys behind the 35-year-old’s recent success.
“He’s a strike-thrower, and he’s commanding both sides of the plate with both his fastball and his off-speed stuff, his slider, his cutter, his changeup and his curveball,” Wakefield said.
Lackey will face off against Rangers lefthander Robbie Ross in the series finale at 3 p.m. To hear more from Wake on Lackey’s strong performances, check out the video above.
