Dad’s not going to be happy about this one.

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. — son of the Baseball Hall of Famer — took over as a defensive replacement in right field Wednesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays and immediately proceeded to do this:

Gross.

The play resulted in an eighth-inning triple for Blue Jays second baseman Steve Tolleson (Gwynn wasn’t charged with an error), but, strangely enough, it was one of the few Toronto hits that didn’t in some way result in a run. The Jays pounded the visiting Phillies 10-0 — with nine of those runs coming in the bottom of the seventh — but the eighth inning ended with Tolleson stranded on third.

That silver lining probably won’t make Gwynn feel any better about his performance, though. The 31-year-old followed up his blunder in the field by lining out to end the game in his only plate appearance.
