Tuukka Rask To Carey Price: ‘You’ve Got To Be Good To Be Lucky’

carey priceEveryone knows the saying, “it’s better to be lucky than good.” Tuukka Rask, however, believes it’s rare to have the former without the latter.

Rask was one of several Boston Bruins players asked Monday about comments made over the weekend by Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price, who said the Bruins “got pretty lucky” during their 5-3 comeback win Saturday afternoon.

The Bruins were not without a fortunate break or two during their four-goal third period — Patrice Bergeron’s knucklepuck-esque, game-tying tally, in particular — but the Boston goaltender argued that such luck usually is the product of skill.

“You’ve got to be good to be lucky, sometimes, too,” Rask said, via ESPN.com. “We got bounces there, but I thought we deserved some of those bounces.”

“I heard that,” Bruins winger Shawn Thornton added. “I’m sure (Price) feels like we got some fortunate bounces. He’s obviously an unbelievable goalie, and he’s very confident right now, so he probably thought he could’ve had a couple of those. If you score four goals in nine minutes, you’re going to get some fortunate bounces. I don’t really think about (Price’s comments), to be honest.”

Price was brilliant for the Canadiens in Game 1, stopping 48 of 51 Bruins shots in a 4-3 double-overtime win, but he came unglued in the third period of Game 2. The series, tied at one game apiece, now shifts to Montreal, where the Habs will host Game 3 on Tuesday night.
