Just 10 days after signing Vince Young to a one-year contract, the Cleveland Browns released the veteran quarterback Monday. The Browns also released quarterback Alex Tanney, who signed with the team in November.

Young, 30, was released by the Green Bay Packers inĀ August 2013 and had spent the past eight months out of football beforeĀ theĀ Browns signed himĀ on May 1. The third overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft, Young has been on four teams in the last three years since he was released by the Tennessee Titans in 2011.

After releasing Young and Tanney,Ā the Browns now have threeĀ quarterbacks on their active roster — Brian Hoyer, Tyler Thigpen and Manziel. Cleveland traded up to the No. 22 pick in this year’s draft to take the Texas A&M product, who is projected to win the backup role and possibly challenge Hoyer for the starting job.

The Browns won their first three games in 2013 with Hoyer as their starting quarterback before he suffered a torn MCL in his third game of the season against the Buffalo Bills.

Along with Young and Tanney, Cleveland also released defensive back Brandon Hughes, defensive lineman Brian Sanford and running back Fozzy Whitaker.
